Objective
We set BoltChatAI on a mission to uncover the key factors influencing the decision-making process of undecided voters in swing states for the 2024 US Presidential Election. Our goal was to explore their prioritisation of issues, potential shifts from past voting behaviour and what specific topics might sway their vote.
By focusing on voters across key swing states, we sought to better understand their motivations, what they look for in a candidate and the role of trust, integrity and economic policies in shaping their choice.
Methodology and Audience
BoltChatAI, our Qual at Scale platform, engaged with undecided voters from swing states, including Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin and Nevada. These participants were screened to ensure they were currently undecided about their vote for the 2024 election.
We explored everything from their views on economic policies and cost-of-living concerns to how they evaluate a candidate’s trustworthiness and integrity. By focusing on the factors that weigh most heavily on their minds, we’ve captured a snapshot of the challenges and priorities shaping voter behaviour.
Economic Concerns: The Deciding Factor
For many undecided voters, the economy remains the top priority. Concerns over inflation, rising living costs and tax policies dominate their decision-making process.
Participants shared how financial pressures shape their views, with many looking for candidates who offer concrete plans to alleviate economic burdens. Lowering taxes, addressing minimum wages and tackling housing affordability were repeatedly cited as pivotal issues.
Voters want action, not promises. They are seeking a leader who can provide a clear path to economic recovery.
Actions Speak Louder Than Words
Trustworthiness is another critical factor for undecided voters. Many participants emphasised the importance of evaluating candidates based on their past actions rather than their campaign rhetoric.
They’re looking for leaders who demonstrate honesty, transparency and a willingness to connect with the struggles of everyday Americans. The ability to follow through on promises is seen as essential for earning their trust—and their vote.
Political Loyalty: Open to Change
Unlike voters firmly aligned with a particular party, undecided voters often feel little loyalty to one side. Many indicated that their decision will depend on which candidate’s policies align most closely with their personal priorities, particularly regarding economic issues.
This openness to change highlights the importance of addressing key voter concerns with substance and sincerity, as loyalty alone won’t sway this group.
Future Focus: Leadership That Listens
As the election approaches, undecided voters are calling for leadership that prioritises action, empathy and tangible results. They’re not just voting for a party—they’re voting for policies that resonate with their daily lives and challenges.
